Chiarugi Convex Ebony Bassoon Reed Plaque

Bassoon plaques are used to protect the fine blades of your bassoon reed when you are shaping/sanding or adjusting your reeds.  Adjusting reeds is an important part of the skill of playing bassoon, and small adjustments can make a difference. To avoid damaging a reed during adjusting, a bassoon reed plaque is essential.  it provides a platform to work on each blade of your reed separately and protects the delicate tip of the reed. Reed File by Chiarugi

The reed file, sometimes called a rasp,  is one of the best investments you will make in your reed adjusting tool kit! Many people use sandpaper on their reeds, but a reed file is superior to sandpaper because it removes the reed shavings from the surface of the reed. This gives a much better result.  A reed that has been adjusted with a file, vibrates better and has a smoother, more even finish. This file comes in two sizes, Oboe / Cor Anglais and Bassoon / Contrabassoon. Click here to see a reed file in action!
