Description
This ebony wood bassoon reed plaque is convex in shape!Ā It’s gentle contour makes shaping and adjusting your bassoon reeds easy.Ā Ā It measures 5.2 cm long,Ā 1.8 cm wide tapering to a fine point of 0.09 mm.
The side profile of this plaque also tapers to a fine pointĀ which allows it to slide safely between the blades of your bassoon reed.
Bassoon players at every skill level use plaques to protect the fine blades and tips of their bassoon reeds when shaping/sanding or adjusting.Ā Adjusting reeds is an important part of the skill of playing a double reed instrument, and small adjustments can make a big difference.
To avoid damaging your reed during adjusting, this bassoon reed plaque is essential.Ā it provides a platform to work on each blade of your reed separately and protects the delicate tip of the reed.Ā The convex (curved) shape of the plaque also contours to the shape of the formed cane which supports the blade while you’re adjusting it.
This oboe plaque is 1.5 mm thick at the large end tapering to 1 mm at the tip.Ā This allows it to slide gently between the blades at the tip of your bassoon reed.
The other tools you’ll need for reed adjustment are a mandrel to hold the reed and a reed knife to make fine adjustments to the blades and tip of the reed.Ā And, as you know, always soak your reed before adjusting!
This bassoon plaque comes in ebony wood.Ā Bassoon players find wooden plaques can be more stable inside the reed during use than plastic plaques.
This is a beautiful tool, well-made and finely finished as you’dĀ expect from the ChiarugiĀ company; makers of quality reed making tools and equipment.
