Reed Making kits are ideal for bassoonists who would like to commence the satisfying and wonderful journey of making reeds! The kit makes reed making accessible, particularly with the assistance of a teacher or other learning resources.
Choose from a 5 or 10 reed pack presented in a fabric zip case.
- Reed Knife with black plastic handle and black blade sheath.
Choose from left (LH) or right handed (RH) knife - Mandrel with black plastic handle.
- Profiled, Shaped and Gouged Cane – 5 pcs or 10 pcs per pack
- 1 cutting block
- 1 plaque
- Small spool of binding thread (either khaki green or iridescent pink)
- Copper wire
- Small fabric zip case in black, pink, green and gold fabric with durable copper zip.

Good starter kit in compact case. And very affordable. Fast delivery to Queensland. I had to buy drying rack separately (from Sweet Reeds), for making multiple Reeds at a time. And had to get pliers which had at home already. Also helps if pliers have a cutting blade for cutting wire, or otherwise use scissors. I also use separate slightly thicker cotton thread (which doesnt come in the kit) for wrapping the blanks, so as not to waste the special thinner thread which comes in this kit, which is used for final wrapping. The Reeds can be sealed with Duco Cement glue or clear nail polish, both of which are not in the kit, but are very cheap to buy. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. And also intend to continue to buy supplies and products from Sweet Reeds, with their affordable large range of bassoon products, and fast delivery.
