As with the Dark Series these are made with high density cane, sensitively bound and carefully scraped. The Light Series are made with the same materials as the Dark Series. However, the Light Series is a little more approachable. They are more free-blowing and won’t require as much breaking in. Despite being slightly softer than the Dark Series, this reed is still built to last and will encourage better breathing and allow you to explore elements of tone production that only a well crafted, hand made artisan reed will give. |
How are they made?
The first thing you will notice is the Zen Reeds’ uniquely shaped crescent and gradual even taper from its tip to the bark. The lip between the scraped reed and the reed’s bark is minimal. You notice that the reed is crafted by a maker with high standards and intelligence.
Zen Reeds are pure. They are not made with wires so there is no requirement to open and close the aperture. This frees you from the tinkering required with wired reeds and allows you to play!
The reeds require some breaking-in, giving you time to develop a relationship with your reed. Relationship building creates results that will impress!
Zen Reeds last well and they hold their own under demanding environments. When you require performance, Zen Reeds have the integrity to deliver. With a Zen Reed you don’t need to constrain your air pressure or diaphragm. A Zen Reed allows you to push the air through and sing!
